About Garry

Garry Crystal is a multi award-winning filmmaker, whose work is a blend of dark humour and melancholy. He is fascinated by themes of parenthood, childhood, grief, betrayal and trauma.
His short films “Down”, “Bertie” (BAFTA SHORT FILM LONGLIST 2019), “The Fox and the Rabbit” and “Bobby” have been selected for and won awards at numerous Academy Award and BAFTA qualifying international film festivals. He has had the pleasure of working with Alison Steadman, Amanda Donohoe, Arthur Darvill, Jemima Rooper and Paul Barber, amongst others. He is a full member of BAFTA and Directors UK. He is also an established award-winning documentary editor, has edited over 100 hours of television and is a member of the “British Film Editors” association. Recent work includes the BBC’s “D-Day: The Unheard Tapes” and Channel 4’s “Me and the Voice in My Head”, for which he recently won 2 Grierson Trust Awards, a Broadcast Awars and was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award for Best Non-Scripted Editing. He was also nominated for a British Film Editor “Cut Above Award” for his work on “D-Day: The Unheard Tapes”.

Garry used to be a TV actor and to his great pride and joy was regularly cast as a hospital patient in leading UK dramas such as “Children’s Ward” and “Peak Practice”.
